“Host of 2009 IBS 1000yd
National championships”
Dear Iowa 1000 Yard
competitor,
We
are letting everyone know that we have had to shut down and move from our range
after the landowner passed away since the family does not want to rent the
property out any more. We are thankful they let us stay and run our matches
through the June 2010 Iowa State Championship match, but we were unable to get
them to extend us any more time.
We
are still in the process of trying to get a new range put together in
partnership with Brownells, but this is taking much longer than anticipated. So
right now it does not look like we will be holding any more matches in 2010
since Brownells has not been able to get started on their range yet.
If
things change, we will let everyone know, but for now we have pulled the
remainder of the Iowa 2010 matches off the IBS schedule.
Hopefully
we will be able to continue with the range at Brownells as planned, but we’re
not sure at all if and when that will be ready since this is quite an
undertaking and much planning and funding needs to be figured out yet to do it
the way it needs to be done.
But
if everything does go through as planned, this has the potential to be a superb
range layout to shoot on and hold matches of a number of disciplines at. We’ll
keep you informed once we know more.
Thank
you!
Gordy
Gritters and Lee Fischer
GENERAL INFORMATION:
The Iowa 1,000 Yard Benchrest Association is an organization dedicated to competitive long range shooting.
The Association is affiliated with the International Benchrest Shooters Association (IBS).
Tentative dates for the 2010
matches are April 17, May 15, June 19.
On each date we will shoot two complete matches. IBS Shooter of the Year and Long range
Marksman points and aggregates (six and ten Match) will be awarded in the first
10 Club matches.
We will shoot three classes. Heavy Gun and Light Gun will follow the IBS rules. The third class will be the “varmint class” which is factory built rifles (basic accurizing allowed).
So whether you are an experienced 1,000-yard shooter or a rookie, come join us on match day for some great shooting, to meet new friends and talk to other experienced shooters. We have a 22-point firing line with solid concrete bench tops.
Congratulations to the following IBS 1000yard National

TWO IBS 1000 YARD
RECORDS FALL AT THE IOWA CLUB IN 2009
There are two tentative IBS 1000 yard Aggregate Records that were set this year and one may be a new world record.
Al Forbes set a new Club and IBS 6 match Light Gun Group aggregate record of 4.281inches with a related score aggregate of 47.17. Al set this record shooting his 6 Dasher and it included 3 screamer groups. The past Club record was 5.299 and the past IBS record was 4.6832.
Lee Fischer set a new Club, IBS and World record 6 match Heavy Gun Score aggregate of 98.833 with a related group aggregate of 6.673 and 19X. Lee set this record shooting his big 300 Ackley. The former Club record was 96.17 set by Lee last year, the former IBS record was 96.833 and the former World Record was 98.33.
We will have to see if these records hold for the balance of the shooting season.
